The benefits from exercise are well documented and researched. Regular exercise with a qualified, and experienced instructor for as little as 10 minutes a day will improve wellbeing and productivity.

Why would you invest in your workforce?
  • Invest in your workforce and your workforce will invest in you: Investors in people “When employees feel connected to the organisation, they invest more of themselves in it. Investing in people pays through the choices they make, the service they give and the results they deliver”.
  • Reduce stress
  • Reduce sickness absence by encouraging regular daily exercise
  • Improve job satisfaction and staff retention by investing in your workforce with health and well-being opportunities. Survey results: 30,000 employees, 15 countries, 64% of employees who perceive their employer to be an active promoter of health and wellness, intend to stay at least five years. (World Economic Forum).
  • Increase productivity with a more alert and active workforce
  • Emulate the Times top 100 employers by providing health, fitness, and well-being for your employees. The Times top 100 are the cream of Britain's motivated workforces “what they have in common is enlightened and forward-looking leaders investing in the well-being and motivation of their most valuable assets: their employees”.

The research and facts:
Stress and low back pain cause absence from work and cost companies many thousands of pounds. 131 million days were lost due to sickness absences in the UK in 2013. Minor illnesses were the most common reason given for sickness absence, but more days were lost to back, neck and muscle pain than any other cause. (Ref: Office for national statistics - Sickness Absence in the Labour Market, February 2014).

Stress can hit anyone at any level and research shows that work related stress is widespread and is not confined to sectors, jobs, or industries. (The Health and Safety Executive)

Where the job unavoidably contains spells of intensive display screen work (whether using the keyboard or input device, reading the screen, or a mixture of the two), these should be broken up by periods of non-intensive, non-display screen work. Breaks must allow users to vary their posture. Exercise routines which include moving and stretching should be encouraged. (The Health and Safety Executive)

"A study in the Lancet medical journal showed that physical inactivity worldwide has been labelled as "pandemic" and that regular exercise is just as good for you as stopping smoking, "

The BHF National Centre recommend; Policy makers should support and encourage employers to take steps to minimise sedentary behaviours in employees, including regular breaks from sitting at a computer.
