Travel:
Flights are best booked in advance, if left, the price will increase.  You need to fly to Athens, Greece.  Ensure your flight is early in the day Saturday allowing you time to reach Poros or book a Friday night flight arriving early Saturday.  I have taken this flight many times and it is fine.  You arrive about 3am and stay in the airport a couple of hours before catching the 8am dolphin to Poros.  For your return flight book a late afternoon or evening flight, allowing you time to return to Athens from the island.

You might want to try Expedia for your flights:  https://www.expedia.co.uk/

Onwards from Athens there are different ways to reach Poros Island:
(Don’t worry about this now, I will help you and it can be booked later.  I will keep in touch and remind you, with the links to book, nearer the time)

  • Taxi to Piraeus – there are taxis just outside the airport.  Will cost about 50 euros.  The journey will take about an hour.
  • Bus to Piraeus – X96 you pick up the bus outside the airport.  Purchase ticket at kiosk, this will cost about 5 euros.  Allow a good hour and a half to reach Piraeus.  Depending on traffic.
The road journey to Piraeus will take about one hour.  At Piraeus (Gate 8) you will need to travel by a flying cat (this is a large catamaran), flying dolphin or ferry to Poros, the fast boat will cost about 30 euros and takes about an hour, the slow ferry will take about 2 and a half hours.  Here is a link to Hellenic Seaways to book the fast boats (the cat or dolphin).  It is advisable to book in advance as they can be fully booked although tickets are not normally available until about 8 weeks before you travel!  You will not need to book a ferry as you can purchase ticket at Piraeus.  Check time-table to decide the best option nearer the time of travel.

Arriving in Poros via boat:  Take a taxi to Neorio Bay, Petros Taverna. This will take about 5 minutes.

Taxi or mini bus from Athens to Poros.  The cost will depend on the number of passengers.  A mini bus with 6 passengers will cost about 70 euros each.  A taxi would be about 300 euros.  If you want to explore this option, please get in touch and I will make enquiries.  The journey will take about 2 and a half hours by road and is door to door.

Things to do in Poros:
