I just wanted to feed back on Wendy’s Tuesday class.
I absolutely loved the introduction of the magic circle in June. So much so, I’ve bought my own so it can come with me when I travel too! As well as being good fun, it really challenged me and is helping to identify and target muscles that aren’t worked as often, especially post my hip replacement. Really looking forward to them coming back later in the year. Huge complements to Wendy for mastering this equipment and teaching us. Sarah Bryant

"After 40 years of competitive sport and 30 years at sitting at a desk at work (or sitting at business lunches!), the body finally started to rebel.
Having played nearly 40 years of hockey mostly on unforgiving artificial pitches, my back was stiff and achy, the joints were struggling and I was diagnosed with arthritis of the hips. Apart from a little bit on the cross trainer and static bike work, motivation and time for exercise was limited.
Then a chance conversation down our hockey club about Pilates sparked an interest.
I had remembered picking up a flyer outside Hornchurch station on more than one occasion and several of my friends had attended the classes so I thought I would give Pilates a go.
I roped in my initially reluctant partner Karen to attend and we headed off for our first session of an Introduction to Pilates. That was 6 months ago and we have both now finished our Pilates courses and completed the 34 moves plus the 2 extra ones!
The sessions taught by Wendy have been well structured and relaxed and cater for all levels of competence so you only do what your body allows you to do.
For me, my Pilates session and a sports massage once a week has really improved my flexibility and posture, I have less aches in the hips and back and I have a more flexible spine, so something must be working.
In addition, Karen decided to try out the Barre Pilates classes, which she describes as ballet meeting Pilates and are sessions she really enjoys.

When I started the Introduction Class back in January, I was concerned whether I would be able to manage the moves, but I needn’t have worried as Pauline introduced the moves very slowly giving various levels so that all the moves were totally accessible. Right from that first class, I was hooked! All subsequent classes followed the same process. One of the things I really liked was that Pauline took time to demonstrate the moves fully, before we attempted them and then continued to talk us through the movements. I absolutely love the Hatha Yoga programmes and each level becomes more and more challenging. Pauline always offers an easier option for each move so everyone can choose just how far to push themselves, without being made to feel they’re wimping out. It amazes me just how much Yoga gets the heart pumping just by standing very still in the poses. The sense of achievement in a) getting into and b) holding the poses is fantastic.
